Data Observatory

Admins can view and manage all of their organization's Data Observatory subscriptions from the Data Observatory settings. Subscriptions are organized by data provider and displayed in a table.

Subscription details

The table displays the following information for each subscription:

  • Name: The subscription name. Clicking on it takes you to the subscription's section in the Data Observatory catalog.

  • Fully qualified name: The actual table name in your data warehouse (click the copy icon to copy it).

  • Version: The dataset's version (e.g., 2019).

  • License: Premium or Public.

  • Expiration: The expiration date for the subscription.

  • Available in: Which data warehouse and region the dataset is accessible from. Hover over the icon to see the exact location.

  • Status: Current subscription status (Subscribed, Expires soon, or Expired).

Request a transfer to your data warehouse

By default, Data Observatory subscriptions are immediately available in your CARTO Data Warehouse connection. Admins can request a transfer to deliver subscription data to other data warehouses like BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, PostgreSQL or Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse.

To request a transfer:

  1. Click the three-dot menu next to any subscription

  2. Select Request transfer

  3. In the transfer request modal, provide your data warehouse connection details

Once the transfer is complete, the subscription data will be available in your specified data warehouse and region. You can track the transfer status in the Available in column.

Canceling and deleting subscriptions

Admins can unsubscribe from Public datasets at any time:

  1. Click the three-dot menu next to the subscription

  2. Select Unsubscribe

This will remove the dataset from your CARTO Data Warehouse connection and from the Data Observatory settings. If the dataset was transferred to your own data warehouse, you will have to remove it manually from there.

Premium subscriptions cannot be canceled. Instead, they remain active until the expiration date of their license. Once a premium subscription expires, admins can delete it:

  • Click the three-dot menu next to the expired subscription

  • Select Delete
