**Update vs. upgrade vs. apply changes.** CARTO uses *update* and *upgrade* interchangeably to mean moving to a newer release version. Re-applying configuration without changing the version (also done with `helm upgrade`) is a separate operation. See the [Glossary](/carto-self-hosted/getting-started/glossary.md) for the full distinction.
